Man boobs can be caused by a buildup of excess fat in the chest area. How do you get rid of this? Simple – Just like any other buildup of fat, the answer is to exercise.
Unfortunately, you can’t just do chest exercises to get rid of man boobs, just like you can’t just do squats to get rid of “thunder-thighs.”
To exercise to remove man boobs, you have to burn fat from your whole body. This will naturally remove the fat from your chest.
Exercises to remove man boobs: Interval Training
Interval Training involves periods of intense training, followed by slow-paced training or rest breaks. Lower intensity training over long periods of time burn more calories while you’re exercising, but high-intensity training kicks up your metabolism, which will increase the amount of calories you’ll burn throughout your day. Interval training is a mix of both (ideally about 1:3 ratio) which will give you the best of both worlds.
- Running - Running is usually recommended as the best exercise for fat loss. Aim to run at least 20 minutes during each session. For interval training, run hard for 30-45 seconds, followed by 1-2 minutes of easy jogging. (Remember – Go easy when you’re first starting out. If 20 minutes is unreasonable, don’t hurt yourself. Start with 10, and move your way up.)
- Biking/Stationary Bike – A good alternative to running. Once again, aim for 30-45 seconds of hard biking, followed by 1-2 minutes of easy biking.
- Sports – Sports such as football, tennis, and basketball are great for burning fat, and usually have interval training (periods of hard and easy exercise) built in the game.
Exercises to remove man boobs: Strength Training
Strength training doesn’t burn as many calories while you’re exercising, but kicks up your metabolism, and naturally burns more calories throughout the day. Strength training also increases your lean muscle mass, which increases the amount of calories you’ll burn throughout the day.
- Push Ups – Put your hands on the ground about shoulder width apart, and lower yourself until you’re almost touching the ground. Push yourself up, and repeat.
- Bench Press – With your back on the machine, press the barbell straight up in the air. Do four sets of 8-12 reps.
- Seated Chest Press – While sitting on the machine, press straight out against the weights. Do four sets of 8-12 reps.
There you have it! Get out there and lose those man boobs.
